The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

Adapted by Don Quinn from C.S. Lewis’ story

An old house in rural England becomes the home base for four children who wander into an incredible country through an old wardrobe and help the country return to summer. In the incredible Narnia, they make friends with the frightened forest people who have almost given up hope for the return of good King Aslan, their true ruler. When Aslan was there, it was always summer. There is a great battle to see whether this magical country will remain under a wintry spell or will, once again, know freedom and summer under good King Aslan. A charming play about courage and the love of freedom.

It’s 1962, and spunky plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has one big dream — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When she finally gets her shot, she’s transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her new-found power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. Ruthless!

Ruthless!
Book and Lyrics by Joel Paley
Music by Marvin Laird

Director: Michelle Davis
Music Director: Spencer Stephens

This is not a youth production. This is a main stage adult musical, but we are seeking one, possibly two, female youth performers.

Judy Denmark, the quintessential housewife, is the mother of talented eight-year-old Tina. Tina Denmark knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking, and she will do anything to win the part in her school musical. Anything includes murdering the leading lady! What wouldn’t a mother do for her perfect child? That is until the tables turn, and Judy discovers talent of her own. This aggressively outrageous musical farce garnered rave reviews during its long Off-Broadway run.

Email Michelle Davis for more information and to schedule an audition.

Audition Dates:
Saturday May 9th 12pm-6pm
Sunday May 10 6pm-10pm
Monday May 18th 7pm-10pm – Callbacks

Rehearsals:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:30pm-10:30pm and Sundays 1pm-6pm July 28th-Sept 10th
Mandatory Tech Week Sept 12th-17th

Not everyone will be needed for every rehearsal. With the exception of tech week, we will do our best to schedule the youth performers rehearsing on Sundays and first on weeknights.

Shows:
Sept 18, 19, 25, 26 and Oct 1, 2 8pm Sept 27 3pm

For the audition please prepare 90 seconds of an uptempo standard musical theatre piece (in the style of, for example, Gypsy, Mame, Hello Dolly, Annie, etc.) Please bring a tracked accompaniment as no audition pianist will be provided. Songs from the show are welcome! No a cappella auditions please.__

You will also be asked to prepare mini-monologues from sides you will receive once your audition is scheduled.

Children auditioning for the role of Tina will be asked to dance.

CASTING NOTES:

This is a very funny, fast-paced, and wickedly twisted musical comedy with 8 distinct female roles. There is no “ensemble”. With the exception of the non-singing role of Miss Block, all the characters have solo songs.

The role of Tina Denmark can be played a youngster or an adult. The show is effective either way for different and valid reasons. We are looking to cast a Tina between the ages of 8 and 18. We may also consider double casting this role to lessen tech week pressure for a young actress.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

Tina Denmark: an 8-year old “triple threat”, loaded with talent and manipulative to the core, she is sickeningly sweet but underneath, is a remorseless psychopath. She will be required to dance quite proficiently, and should have a strong belt. Ideally, we would like to cast someone between 8-18 years old.

F# below middle C to E one octave above middle C

Louise Lerman: The student who beats out Tina for the lead in the school play, she has limited talent and is larger than Tina. Depending on the casting of Tina, this role may be an older child actor or played by an adult who doubles with Eve.
