Book and Lyrics by Joel Paley
Music by Marvin Laird

Director: Michelle Davis
Music Director: Spencer Stephens

Judy Denmark, the quintessential housewife, is the mother of talented eight-year-old Tina. Tina Denmark knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking, and she will do anything to win the part in her school musical. Anything includes murdering the leading lady! What wouldn’t a mother do for her perfect child? That is until the tables turn, and Judy discovers talent of her own. This aggressively outrageous musical farce garnered rave reviews during its long Off-Broadway run.

Email Michelle Davis for more information and to schedule an audition.

For the audition please prepare 90 seconds of an uptempo standard musical theatre piece (in the style of, for example, Gypsy, Mame, Hello Dolly, Annie, etc.) Please bring a tracked accompaniment as no audition pianist will be provided. Songs from the show are welcome! No a cappella auditions please.__

You will also be asked to prepare mini-monologues from sides you will receive once your audition is scheduled.

Only children auditioning for the role of Tina will be asked to dance.

All roles are available. This is a very funny, fast-paced, and wickedly twisted musical comedy with 8 distinct female roles. There is no “ensemble”. With the exception of the non-singing role of Miss Block, all the characters have solo songs.

The show can be performed with an all female cast, though the role of Sylvia St. Croix originally was, and is often performed, by an actor in drag. We are looking to cast a male performer in the role of Sylvia St. Croix. However, this is a HUGE role, and we will cast the best actor, male or female, for the part.

The role of Tina Denmark can be played a youngster or an adult. The show is effective either way for different and valid reasons. We are looking to cast a Tina between the ages of 8 and 18. We may also consider double casting this role to lessen tech week pressure for a young actress.

Sylvia St. Croix: The stereotypical “in-your-face” talent manager, who is obsessed with making Tina a star. For this role, we are looking to cast a man in drag, or a Norma Desmond-type woman with Bea Arthur’s vocal quality.

A one octave below middle C to E above middle C

Judy/Ginger: Tina’s mother, approximately 28-40, a simple June Cleaver-type housewife, who is transformed into Ginger, a Broadway diva.

Should possess both a beautiful legit soprano and strong belt. F below middle C to B Flat one octave above middle C

Tina Denmark: an 8-year old “triple threat”, loaded with talent and manipulative to the core, she is sickeningly sweet but underneath, is a remorseless psychopath. She will be required to dance quite proficiently, and should have a strong belt. Ideally, we would like to cast someone between 8-18 years old.

F# below middle C to E one octave above middle C

Miss Thorn: A wannabe actress who had to settle for teaching 3rd grade, she is the director of the school play. Her integrity in casting is questionable.

E below middle C to B above middle C

Louise Lerman: The student who beats out Tina for the lead in the school play, she has limited talent and is larger than Tina. Depending on the casting of Tina, this role may be an older child actor or played by an adult who doubles with Eve.

Middle C to B Flat above middle C

Lita Encore: Judy’s adoptive mother, a theatre critic with a poison pen, who hates musicals. An Ethel Merman-type with a strong belt.

E below middle C to D one octave above middle C

Eve: Efficient personal assistant to Broadway star, Ginger. She wants Ginger’s life, and copies her every mannerism. May be doubled with Louise.

F# below middle C to C above middle C

Miss Block: A reporter who wants to do a story about Ginger’s past.

This is a non-singing role, and may be doubled with Miss Thorn.

Sondheim on Sondheim

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Conceived and Originally Directed by James Lapine

Directors: Michelle Davis and Chris Ikner

Far from the typical song cycle, Sondheim On Sondheim is hailed as a “revelatory revue full of wonderful moments” and a “funny, affectionate and revealing tribute to musical theater’s greatest living composer and lyricist,” It is an intimate portrait of the famed songwriter in his own words… and music. Ranging from the beloved to the obscure, the carefully selected two-dozen songs hang from a framework of in-depth video interviews delving into Sondheim’s personal life and artistic process.

Email Michelle Davis for more information and to schedule an audition.

Audition Requirements: Please prepare 60-90 seconds of a Sondheim song. Please bring a tracked accompaniment as no audition pianist will be provided. Songs from the show are welcome! No a cappella auditions please.
